Capital One direct mail piece i created. The cardboard backing inside would be plastic or wood, so the spoon wouldn't go all soggy like it would if i kept it as board.
Took this to the final crit and it was suggested i create some sort of support for the packages to go on, this way i could control how the audience receives my designs.
i created this typeface to use in my Neuroscience book, the letter forms illustrate the Hermann grid, an optical illusion where u can see dots in between the squares.
Neuroscience is the study of the brain and nervous system. I have been looking into finding interesting aspects of this area to include into my booklet. I don't want a boring booklet that will send my audience to sleep so i amon the hunt for interesting topics that are still factual but will enlighten my audience of teens and above into the less known areas of neuroscience and how it is applied as a subject to our everyday lives etc...
Wake up and smell the coffee - this is the message i am using for my direct mail package for Capital One. The idea is to get the package delivered i the morning so the audience will open it at breakfast and be presented with the "snap out it" feeling and after the initial impact to get their attention the information included will make the change to a Capital One credit card. They will also get a nice cup of coffee to drink while they read the information! :D
The images are examples of what i need to consider designing to print onto or relate to.
For my Capital One research i came across several direct mail packages i found interesting, mainly because of the interaction with the audience, and getting them to interact with the concept, or because of the concept itself and simplicity. Also the types of stock the designer chose to print on, i like the neat little touch of printing onto a dog biscuit :D
For the idea of "don't bury your head in the sand" i thought of creating a pop-up mail-shot, illustrating a customer with his/her head in the stand and the audience being able to pull them out of the sand to reveal the offers Capital One will be offering them.
Here are some existing layout designs i have looked at when thinking about my publication design for the !0 things you should know about science project.
As it will be A5 the best column width i have found will be 4.
Love these packaging designs, and layout decided to experient with the layout on my postcards... Looks a bit of a rip off though, after this decided to go back and do the brief again looking at my previous ideas... along comes the cereal kiler!
I am in my second year on a BA Graphic Design degree at Leeds College of Art and Design.
A lot of things interest me and inspire me and i hope this blog gives people an insight into my thoughts about design.
I'll be posting about things i like, and that i find inspiring but also things that are relevant to aiding my current briefs
